I know China needs energy. I know that multinational firms headquartered in the United States and Canada want to supply those needs. However, to do so by rapid “development” of the Canadian tar sands, especially with pumping the bituminous crude through our heartland and over the Ogallala Aquifer, is much too risky. It encourages China to take the easy way to building an economy, not a sustainable one. Ultimately, it feeds our fossil-fuel addiction with a dirty needle and diverts our scientific creativity away from renewable energy sources. We must face the real risks, not hide them in a superficial EIS done by a company with a clear conflict of interest. Mr. President, reject that pipeline!
